Investigations have unfortunate associations of guilt, innocence and evidence. In such an atmosphere it can be difficult to elicit facts but easy to increase mistrust between the individuals and other team members.



In an Exploration, the individuals uncover with the mediator what lead to the grievance or disciplinary request. The mediator does not judge but creates a relaxed, professional, objective atmosphere. The information they help to elicit is more thorough and helps both parties to understand what happened and why, with behaviours and their effects discussed, to allow change to be self generated, not imposed.


The outcomes range from withdrawal of the formal complaint to a report so a third party can make a decision without further delay.
