Amber launches Homelessness Mediation report | 16/11/11


Emma Dore, Edinburgh Cyrenians' Amber mediation serviceThousands of young people become homeless in Scotland each year due to relationship breakdown, but this “tragedy” could be prevented by further investment in mediation services, a reception at the Scottish Parliament heard today.



 

On average, 13,350 young people (16-24 years-old) become homeless in Scotland each year. Relationship breakdown is the greatest single cause of homelessness with 6,000 young people who were living with their families becoming homeless every year due to relationship breakdown.

“Young single people are those most likely to become homeless, usually because their relationship with their family has broken down – yet with the right support many of these breakdowns are preventable,” Tam Baillie, Scotland’s Commissioner for Children and Young People, said.
